Apple Watch SE 2 has come up with some new features as compared to the previous Apple Watch SE. There are some new fitness and safety features. It has a complete Apple Watch experience for a nice price. The battery life is longer. It is very slick. It is extremely light and comfortable. There is mid-tier fitness tracking. There is new car crash detection. The battery life is impressive. Apple has just polished the previous version of the Apple Watch SE. It has got an even lighter weight body, a new processor, and a new processor. The most notable feature is a car crash detection. This is a full-fat Apple Watch. The processor is new. The speed is good. You don’t have to worry about software restrictions. The screen is a little bit smaller than Apple Watch Series 8. It has a thicker bezel. This is one of the best Apple watches in terms of price and balancing features.
The design
It is lighter than any other Apple Watch. It has four aluminum color options. It has a slightly thicker bezel than Series 8. The shape of the Watch SE 2 is something that people would familiarize themselves with easily. It comes in 40 mm and 44 mm sizes and this is the smallest watch in Apple’s 2022 collection. This time, it is available in three aluminum finishes: Midnight, Starlight, and Silver. The Midnight one is very nice. Looking at it, it seems that it is just black but looking deeply, one can decipher that the subtle hint of blue is there.
The power button is the same combination of the Digital Crown and the power/app button on the right-hand side. This is like the previous version. There is toughened glass with curved edges on the front. The screen is not sapphire. It has a crystal-covered heart rate sensor on the rear. There is a nylon-infused material. Because of this, the rear of the Apple Watch SE 2 complements the coloring of the aluminum chassis around it. Hence, it looks more unified when it is off the wrist. There is a loss in weight as a result. The new 40 mm Apple Watch SE 2 is up to 13% higher than the previous one. It is 18% lighter than the 41 mm Series 8 aluminum model. The Apple Watch SE 2 is water-resistant up to 50m. It means that it is fine to use in the pool or open water. Make sure you don’t do deep-sea diving. For that, you would need Apple Watch Ultra. There is a slightly larger bezel in the Apple Watch SE 2. This is larger than you get on the Series 8 or Series 7. But you may not notice it as it depends on the kind of watch you use. If you are using a black background, then the bezel won’t be visible.
The display
It is bright up to 1,000 nits. It has no always-on option. It has toughened glass and not sapphire. The screen appears the same as that of the Apple Watch SE: an OLED display that has 1,000 nits of brightness. That’s the same brightness as the Series 8. It makes the display visible nicely in most situations. Reflections can interfere, but you won’t find any issues there. The thing that you don’t get here is the always-on display of the Series 8. With the Apple Watch SE 2, when you lower or turn your wrist (and the watch isn’t facing right towards your head), you get a totally black screen. Also, it returns to black after a short time even if it’s still facing up.
The approach of the Apple Watch SE 2 is very fine. It responds finely, quickly, and reliably, when the wrist is moved. This is the kind of movement that it’s designed to respond to. Subtlety is not the characteristic of the watch. It requires a lot of turns or movement of the arm to trigger the display. For checking workout stats during your exercises where you don’t have to move your hands, would be difficult. In weights, cycling, and elliptical exercises, with an always-on screen, as in Series 8, you can glance and get information without turning your wrist. But with SE 2, this is not possible. The absence of an always-on screen is not a flaw, but it depends. The major advantage of the Apple Watch SE 2 is that the battery life is good.
Fitness and Health.
There is a feature of car crash detection. It has good workout options. It doesn’t have an ECG or a pulse oxygen sensor. But it has an irregular heartbeat warning. The Watch SE 2 features very few new and different fitness or health features as compared to the original model. But still, it is not a bad option until and unless you don’t want to get too hardcore. There are some good options. There are motion sensors for movement tracking and personal fall detection. There is GPS on all models that provides location and speed data. There is a pulse sensor on the inside that can track heart rate. It can warn about potential irregular heart rhythms. There is a noise sensor to warn of potential hearing damage. There is sleep detection and many software health options.
There is an addition of a new accelerometer. It is a sensor that detects movement. This also enables a new Car Crash Detection feature. This means that if you are in a car crash, then your Apple Watch will ask if you are alright. And then, it will call the emergency services automatically- if you don’t respond. In theory, this means that it should improve performance, in general, for activity tracking or regular fall detection (by being accurate). There is no ECG or pulse oxygen sensor or temperature sensor here. These are those three things that you get on the Apple Watch Series 8. Equivalent watches like Fitbit support some of these features.
Conclusion
This Apple Watch SE 2 is a great choice. It has both pros and cons. It is very light and slick. It has a new car crash detection. The battery life is amazing. The price is good. It has four aluminum color options. It has slightly a thicker bezel than Series 8. But it doesn’t have an always-on screen. There is no ECG built-in.
